Condition of Class and Recommendations
A condition of class must be managed against the Society’s wording, deadline and closure requirements. Completed work is not yet class-accepted closure.
Operational Explanation
Read the report and current class status: terms such as condition, recommendation or memorandum can have different meanings under the Rules. Assign an owner and prepare the evidence and attendance required for acceptance. An extension request does not by itself change the deadline.
Regulatory Reference
IACS PR 1C Rev.7, November 2024 covers suspension, reinstatement and withdrawal for overdue surveys or conditions. Apply Society Rules and flag instructions for statutory effects. IACS FAQ.
Scope of Application
Distinguish class status, statutory certificates, PSC and contractual effects. Do not assume suspension always cancels every certificate or that all remain valid: check the cause and flag provisions.
Procedure / How to Complete It
- Record the full condition, reference and deadline.
- Agree repair, evidence and closure verification.
- Request any deadline change promptly and verify acceptance.
- If overdue, obtain current class status and assess operational and statutory effects.
- Close the file after Society confirmation and document updates.
Practical Example
Repairs are complete but required verification is outstanding: retain the finding as open in the Company register and agree formal closure with class.
What Typically Goes Wrong
Marking a finding closed solely on the yard’s statement or treating an extension request as authorisation.
