Renewal Survey and Certificate Renewal
Renewal requires a completed survey and correct certification. An extension is conditional authorisation, not an automatic allowance after expiry.
Operational Explanation
Plan examinations, tests and documents before expiry. Under HSSC, completing renewal within the preceding three months normally retains the previous expiry as the reference for the new cycle; earlier completion can change that reference. Check the individual certificate provision.
Regulatory Reference
Scope of Application
Distinguish extension up to three months to reach the survey port, grace up to one month for short voyages, and provisions for a completed survey where the certificate is not yet available. Each has its own conditions and authorisations.
Procedure / How to Complete It
- Confirm expiry and the applicable rule.
- Agree scope, access, tests and completion timing.
- Check findings and documents before treating the survey as complete.
- Obtain specific authorisation if necessary; do not assume extension.
- Check the new certificate, effective date, expiry and documents to retain on board.
Practical Example
An extension to reach the survey port does not authorise further voyages after arrival without a new certificate. Record this restriction in the operational programme.
